CARLOS SANTANA Cancels Las Vegas Residency Shows Following Heart Scare - BLABBERMOUTH.NET

CARLOS SANTANA Cancels Las Vegas Residency Shows Following Heart Scare

Carlos Santana has canceled his Las Vegas residency dates following a health scare. The guitarist was scheduled to perform eight dates at House of Blues at Mandalay Bay this month, beginning on Wednesday.

Santana said in a YouTube message Wednesday afternoon he had experienced chest discomfort Saturday and asked his wife and bandmate Cindy Blackman Santana to take him to the hospital.

"Just wanted to share with you some clarity with specificity what's been going on with my physicality," Santana said in the video. "There's been rumors flying around here and there about this and that. So, I'm here to just crystallize and make it clear. Last Saturday I had an incident where I asked my wife Cindy to take me to the hospital 'cause I had this thing happening in my chest.

"So, when we went there we found out that I needed to take care of it," he added. "So I am, and so I'm going to be taking time out for a little bit to make sure I replenish and I rest and catch up with my health so that when I play for you I would play the way I'm used to and give you 150 percent. I wouldn't show up unless I can do that. So other than that, I hope you and your family are enjoying good health, peace of mind, and joy. I know I will. Thank you for being a fan, and your oneness, and your caring. Peace."

Michael Vrionis, the president of Santana's management company Universal Tone Management, said in a statement that the legendary guitarist "had an unscheduled heart procedure that impacted his performance in Las Vegas" and added that he is "doing fantastic and is anxious to be back on stage soon. He profoundly regrets that this 'speed bump' necessitated the cancellation of his upcoming performances. He is looking forward to seeing you all very soon."

Santana is expected back on stage on January 26, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Carlos is currently promoting his latest album, "Blessings And Miracles", which was released via BMG on October 15. The record's first single, "Move", saw the music legend and guitar icon reteamed with MATCHBOX 20 singer Rob Thomas.

Jacqueline Avant, wife of music legend Clarence Avant, shot and killed - NBC News

LOS ANGELES — Jacqueline Avant, wife of the music executive known as the "Godfather of Black Music," was shot and killed in at the couple's home early Wednesday.

Beverly Hills police responded to calls regarding a shooting at the home of Jacqueline and Clarence Avant at about 2:23 a.m., according to a press release with the address. Police said the victim was taken to a nearby hospital by paramedics but did not survive.

A spokesperson for Netflix confirmed to NBC News that Jacqueline Avant was shot and killed. Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos is Jacqueline Avant's son-in-law.

Potential suspects were not at the scene when officers arrived. A homicide investigation has been opened into the incident, Beverly Hills police said in a press release.

June 1, 201907:46

Jacqueline Avant, who once modeled in the Ebony Fashion Fair, married Clarence Avant in 1967 and the couple had two children together. Their daughter, Nicole Avant, credited her mother for helping keep her father balanced in the 2019 documentary "The Black Godfather."

“Well, they’ve been married for 52 years, and my mom is really the one who brought to my father and our family the love and passion and importance of the arts and culture and entertainment,” Nicole said in the 2019 film. “While my father was in it, making all the deals, my mother was the one who gave me, for example, my love of literature, my love of filmmaking, my love of storytelling.”

She called her mother the "the umbrella" in Clarence Avant's life.

Serving as a manger, producer and mentor, Clarence Avant has been credited as the influencer who helped launch the careers of some of the most notable Black musicians of all time, including Bill Withers.

Clarence Avant was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year, with Lionel Richie giving a speech honoring him during the ceremony. Richie called him a "teacher" and "master communicator."

"What he did for us, the sons and daughters of the Afro-American community, he was the one that brought us to some understanding of what the music business was all about," Richie said.

Former President Barack Obama called Clarence Avant one of his favorite people during a video tribute that aired in last month's ceremony.

"Clarence and others, they are really the bridge from a time where there was almost no opportunity to a time where doors began to open," Obama said. "They led the way: in politics, in business, in the arts, in saying 'no, make room for us.'"

This is a developing story, please check back for updates.

ABC’s George Stephanopoulos to Interview Alec Baldwin in Primetime Special Following ‘Rust’ Shooting - Hollywood Reporter

ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos will have the first sit-down interview with Alec Baldwin since the accidental shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the latter’s film Rust.

The full interview will air as a primetime special on ABC tomorrow, Thursday, Dec. 2, at 8 p.m., and will stream on Hulu later that evening, the network said Wednesday. ABC will also air a two-hour edition of its newsmagazine 20/20 on Dec. 10 examining the Rust accident. That program will feature additional reporting and interviews.

The interview and specials were announced on Good Morning America on Wednesday morning. “This was the most intense [ABC interview] I have ever experienced,” Stephanopoulos said on the program Wednesday. “He was so raw, as you can imagine he was devastated, but he was also very candid, he was very forthcoming, he answered every question, he talked about Halyna Hutchins, meeting her family as well, and he talked in detail about what happened on the set that day.”

Related Stories

In a teaser clip released on Wednesday (below), Baldwin is shown in tears as he remembers Hutchins as someone who was loved and admired by her peers. “It just doesn’t seem real to me,” he tells Stephanopoulos. The actor says the tragedy is the worst thing that has ever happened to him, “because I think back and I think of, what could I have done?”

In the short teaser, Baldwin also tells Stephanopoulos, “I didn’t pull the trigger. … I would never point a gun at anyone and pull a trigger at them, never” and that he has “no idea” how a live bullet ended up on the Rust set: “Someone put a live bullet in a gun. A bullet that wasn’t even supposed to be on the property.”

On Oct. 21, Rust cinematographer Hutchins was fatally shot and director Souza was wounded when Baldwin, a producer and star on the Western that was filming in Bonanza City, New Mexico, fired a gun that he believed was safe but actually contained a live round, per the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office.

The criminal investigation into the shooting is being conducted by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office and the New Mexico First Judicial District Attorney and could take months to complete, authorities have said. The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office about Baldwin’s new comments.

In addition to the primetime interview with Baldwin, a follow-up Rust special will air next week, Friday, and will stream the following day on Hulu. “Next week, a two-hour 20/20 delves into the events ahead of the deadly shooting on the set of Rust and the pending investigations into what went wrong; and features the Baldwin interview and new interviews,” ABC News said.

Baldwin, armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed and assistant director David Halls are among those under investigation; multiple lawsuits have been filed as a result.

On Tuesday, a search warrant affidavit filed for a prop shop shed light on how alleged live ammunition may have ended up on the set. The affidavit notes that Thell Reed, a longtime Hollywood armorer and the father of Gutierrez Reed, had a can containing between 200 and 300 rounds of “live ammunition” from a previous project that was kept by Seth Kenney of PDQ Arm & Prop, LLC. Thell Reed suggested that ammo may match ammo collected from the Bonanza Creek Ranch set.

“She was my friend,” Baldwin had said about Hutchins in his first, brief comments after her death on Oct. 30. “The day I arrived in Santa Fe and started shooting, I took her to dinner with Joel [Souza], the director.” He added at the time: “We were a very, very well-oiled crew shooting a film together, and then this horrible event happened.”

Jackie Strause and Ryan Parker contributed to this report.

Dec. 1, 11 a.m. Updated to include teaser clip; THR reaching out to Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office about Baldwin’s comments.

Lovely Bones Author Alice Sebold Apologizes to Anthony Broadwater - NPR

The Lovely Bones author Alice Sebold said in her statement, "I will continue to struggle with the role that I unwittingly played within a system that sent an innocent man to jail." TINA FINEBERG/ASSOCIATED PRESS

TINA FINEBERG/ASSOCIATED PRESS

Nearly four decades after identifying the wrong person as the man who raped her in college, author Alice Sebold has apologized and her publishers said they would stop distributing her 1999 memoir in which she wrote about it.

Anthony Broadwater, who spent more than 16 years in prison for the crime and who had constantly maintained his innocence, was exonerated last week.

"First, I want to say that I am truly sorry to Anthony Broadwater and I deeply regret what you have been through," begins a statement Sebold posted Tuesday on Medium.

"I am sorry most of all for the fact that the life you could have led was unjustly robbed from you, and I know that no apology can change what happened to you and never will. Of the many things I wish for you, I hope most of all that you and your family will be granted the time and privacy to heal."

In 1981, Sebold was a freshman at Syracuse University when she was raped and beaten. Five months later, she spotted Broadwater nearby campus and called the police. She identified him in court during his trial in 1982.

According to Syracuse.com, which first reported Broadwater's exoneration, "The only two pieces of evidence against Broadwater were Sebold's identification at trial — after picking out the wrong man in an earlier police lineup — and microscopic hair analysis, now deemed to be junk science."

Sebold, who would go on to write the immensely popular book The Lovely Bones, wrote about her experience in her memoir, Lucky. There were plans to turn Lucky into a movie, but according to a report from Variety, funding for it dried up months ago.

On Tuesday, Scribner and Simon & Schuster said they would "cease distribution of all formats of Alice Sebold's 1999 memoir Lucky while Sebold and Scribner together consider how the work might be revised."

In her apology, Sebold acknowledged the role race played in Broadwater's wrongful conviction.

"Today, American society is starting to acknowledge and address the systemic issues in our judicial system that too often means that justice for some comes at the expense of others. Unfortunately, this was not a debate, or a conversation, or even a whisper when I reported my rape in 1981."

Broadwater told Syracuse.com that his conviction limited his employment prospects to manual labor and odd jobs. Sebold wrote in her statement that not only did Broadwater serve 16 years behind bars, but called the lingering effects from it "nearly a full life sentence."
